Introduction

For a team building away day with a difference that leaves a lasting positive impact on our climate and our local environment, join the Rowans wood team on a day of fresh air, exercise and a unique opportunity to contribute to woodland heritage. Tree planting can only be carried out from October -beginning March

 

Woodland shelter building and fire lighting

Problem solving and teamwork are what’s needed for this  Using what natural material is around you, construct a shelter that will protect your team from the elements. Can you all keep dry as the shelter is tested.

When you have finished your shelter you will need fire to survive (or make a cup of tea). You have fifty minutes, five pieces of wood, Work out how to and then light a fire using what you have worked out.

Bench making

The group will divide into two teams.

From a pile of branches, willow and solid planks each team will have to design and construct a bench that will seat the other team. It must reflect what you think the other team wants. All members must participate in the design and construction of these benches.

To successfully complete this the team must be able to utilize all their members. Manual dexterity, artistic feeling, delegation, leadership and simple brute strength are all skills needed to complete this project.
